Food waste bins get thumbs up

More than 80% of people with food waste collections say they're no trouble - and all councils should provide them.

Friends of the Earth's new research rubbishes claims by a Government minister that householders don't want to use food waste bins.

Instead it shows that:

  • The vast majority think food waste collections are hassle-free.
  • 3 out of every 4 people think all councils should provide the service.

That's good news for our bank balances and the environment - as we currently throw away a third of our food. But at the moment, fewer than half of England's local authorities collect food waste, although all authorities in Wales do.
