Talking half as much rubbish

Are you convinced that things don't last as long as they used to? That wrapping fruit in plastic is, well, bananas?

From yoghurt pots to CDs, we know that you're fed up with having to bin so much rubbish.

The Government has been deciding what to do about the nation’s rubbish.

We want it to aim high and halve household ‘black bag’ waste by 2020.

Reducing our rubbish

What would the 2020 target mean?

  • Better recycling and re-use services.
  • Better products that are built to last.
  • Less pointless packaging.

It wouldn’t mean more hassle or sorting for us. The best collection services are the simplest - and the best value for money.

Of course, businesses need to be included too. We're calling for a similar target to cut the waste they bury and burn.

Recycling's been a massive success - even if we do say so ourselves.

This next step would help us:

  • save cash
  • reduce climate change emissions
  • stop using stuff that we're running out of
  • and create tens of thousands of jobs.

It would also mean we don’t need to build expensive treatment plants to deal with our rubbish. And instead guarantee raw materials for British manufacturing.
