Friends of the Earth is a collective name for Friends of the Earth Trust, registered charity 281681, company number 1533942, and Friends of the Earth Limited, company number 1012357, both of which are joint data controllers of any personal data that you share under the Data Protection Act 1998, and the General Data Protection Regulation (from May 25th 2018)
Registration
Registered users of the Great British Bee Count app must be 18 years or older.
Bee data use
The data you submit relating to bee sightings, including, but not limited to, ‘bee species’, ‘number of bees seen’, ‘habitat’, ‘weather’, ‘location’, ‘date’ and ‘time’, will be used to gather insight into bee health and activity in the UK. This data will also be shared with the National Biodiversity Network, an organisation which collates biodiversity information.
This bee sighting related data can be made publicly available to be used by other organisations or individuals. Personal data such as your name, email address and telephone number will not be shared in this manner, and will only be held and managed in line with current data processing legislation
Data you submit relating to bee sightings may be used on the Great British Bee Count map, which shows where sightings have been made across the UK.
Any photos or other digital images uploaded to the Great British Bee Count may be used by Friends of the Earth Trust/Limited for all purposes across all media.
By uploading an image, you are agreeing that you own the image and Friends of the Earth is entitled to use it.
Legitimate interest
Under GDPR, all organisations are required to have a legal basis under which personal data is held and processed. For the Great British Bee Count, Friends of the Earth has concluded that legitimate interest is our selected legal basis.
We have conducted a Legitimate Interest Assessment, and we have confirmed that for this activity, Friends of the Earth will be holding and processing personal data in ways which participants would reasonably expect and which have a minimal privacy impact on them. We are happy that there is a compelling justification for the processing of the data, as the survey cannot be completed without it.
Further communication
If you have opted-in to further communications from us via the Great British Bee Count app, you confirm you're happy for us to keep in touch with you about our activities, including whether you can help with a donation. If you do not wish to hear from us, you can opt out on receipt of the first email or call, and at any time after this.
Social media
Friends of the Earth Trust / Limited, Ecotalk and Buglife cannot be held responsible for content posted on social media sites in relation to the ‘Great British Bee Count’, ‘Friends of the Earth’, ‘Ecotalk’ and ‘Buglife’.
