An Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) for the whole of Oxford was declared in 2010 due to high levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) which exceed the 40 μg/m3 mean annual objective set by the European Commission.
The Brexit campaigners are right. The European Union is wasteful, expensive and bureaucratic. In many ways it has been captured by corporate interests, and its complex structures are resistant to democratic reform. The EU is, as Winston Churchill famously said of democracy, “the worst form of Government”. But Churchill’s punch line about democracy also applies to the EU: “except all those other forms that have been tried”.
There's a large range of campaigning groups in Oxfordshire working on climate change, ranging from direct action groups to more traditional lobbying. This became especially clear in the lead up to the Paris COP21 meeting, when we became aware of all sorts of groups and initiatives we didn't previously know about.
British bees are in decline and they need our help! We asked the Government to develop a Bee Action Plan to address all major causes of bee decline, and they listened! In Summer 2013, Lord de Mauley announced at the Friends of the Earth Bee Summit that the Government would develop a National Pollinator Strategy (aka Bee Action Plan).
